Musicambia at Rikers Island

Virtual Programming

• June 2020: Musicambia commissioned each of our 13 Teaching Artists to create a short video series (30 minutes total) on their instrument or musical genre. These videos were shared for free with up to 5,000 men and women incarcerated in the New York City Department of Correction (DOC).

• 2021: Musicambia was invited to correspond with program participants via email. Program Director spiritchild responded to emails of homework assigned for his hip-hop video series on a weekly basis.

In-Person Programming

• December 2021: Musicambia led a 3-day songwriting workshop with veterans incarcerated at Rikers Island.

• February 2022: Musicambia led a songwriting workshop with women incarcerated in the Rose M. Singer Center (RSMC) at Rikers Island.
